An online log of Atlantis' travels and adventures to Svalbard

Position Report - Passing Shetland

Posted by admin on July 24, 2013

Just after midnight Atlantis passed Sumburgh Head at the southern tip of the Shetland Islands.  We are not planning to stop and will continue south-west to Cape Wrath to enjoy what is left of a brisk south-easterly breeze.  Atlantis is romping along under full main and genoa at up to 8 knots and all is well on board.

Our future plans are firming up.  We shall be leaving Atlantis in safe hands moored at the Ardfern Yacht Centre in Argyll, NW Scotland in order that we can return to work and other commitments on time.  This is considerably closer to home than we originally thought might be possible at the outset of this venture.  Later in the summer we'll look to make the final trip home to Plymouth.  Our arrival at Ardfern is likely to be on Friday afternoon.
